Manchester Law Firm Glaisyers Opens New Doors For Ellard

Manchester law firm, Glaisyers Solicitors, has advised Ensor Holdings plc on a 12 month refurbishment of the new HQ for the Wythenshawe-based group and its subsidiary, Ellard, lining it up for significant future expansion.
Established in 1952, Ellard specialises in the manufacture and distribution of drives and controls for doors from large industrial to small residential applications. Since it became part of the Ensor Group in 2001, Ellard has continued its growth to become a major supplier of industrial motors, drives and accessories to the door industry.
Ensor has designed and directed the remodelling of the 1970s Danepak building on Roundthorn Industrial Estate. The building was stripped back to structural steel and then re-clad and new floors laid to meet modern building regulations. The internal office space was considerably expanded and carbon reduction measures put in place.
Ensor has taken a 10-year lease from an associated company which has a 150 year ground lease from the freeholder, Manchester City Council. The former Denmark House building has now become the new Ellard House which opens this month.
Property and retail partner, Eric Quirk said: “Ellard has been trading for over 60 years and from its existing building only half a mile away for over 20 years.
“The new HQ will comprise 5,000 sq ft of offices and 20,000 sq ft of warehouse, giving Ellard plenty of additional floor space for its continued business expansion plans.
“As a clear sign of the gradual upturn in the economy, Glaisyers is seeing increased foreign investment and orders for our manufacturing clients. For example, there is a renewed confidence in SMEs wanting to borrow in the leisure and high tech service sectors.”
Also advising on the refurbishment were architects WDW of Shrewsbury, supervising quantity surveyor Michael Hurst of Roger Hannah & Co. and the landlord’s solicitor, Andrew Kay of Read Roper & Read. The contractor was Williams Build and Design Limited.
Glaisyers Solicitors rebranded itself and launched a new website earlier this year. Glaisyers continues to offer high quality legal services to both individuals and businesses and focuses on particular sectors where it is seen by clients as ‘big enough to trust and small enough to care’. The firm has approximately 50 staff and 10 partners and celebrates its 40th birthday next year.
