A Connolly Ltd, which was established in 1984, has grown from a locally based painting and decorating firm to a multi-million pound planned refurbishment contractor. The company has had its most successful year to date with revenue increasing from £6.5million in 2014 and ending 2016 at £14.5million.
Alongside revenue growth the company has experienced an increase in client base, employees and apprentices. After securing a framework with Contour Homes worth £2.5million a year, the workforce has expanded from 65 employees in 2014 to 110 at the end of 2016, with the number of apprentices reaching 15, from just four in 2014.
The company’s recent successes have been recognised by being awarded Contractor of the Year at Housing Excellence 2016 and a finalist for Best Regeneration Scheme for St Thomas' Estate in Bolton.
To celebrate this success, staff, clients and partners were invited to the opening ceremony of newly expanded and refurbished offices on Leeds Street.
Businessmen Martin Ainscough CBE, Dave Whelan, and David Fairhurst, of Wigan Youth Zone, unveiled a new plaque that will be mounted at the offices. Speeches were given by members of A Connolly’s senior leadership team, Simon Harrison and Tony Connolly, where a cheque for £3,000 was presented to Wigan Youth Zone.
Managing Director Simon Harrison, who was appointed in 2012, says the aim for the next three years is to increase revenue growth to £20 million with continued strategic planning.
He said: “I am delighted with the strong growth year on year A Connolly has seen. Marking this with the expansion of our office to create a better working environment for our team is very fitting, as our success is very much down to a strong and dedicated workforce, alongside trustworthy working partnerships and business relationships. It was great to see so many of the people we work with at our event and thank you to Martin, and both Davids for performing the opening ceremony.”
A Connolly delivers planned refurbishment to the housing, education, health, commercial, retail, industrial, leisure and energy, with services ranging from cyclical maintenance, refurbishment, and new builds.
Simon added: “The future for A Connolly will see us continue to be committed and focussed on our workforce and the clients we work for – both of which are key to our success.
“We are first and foremost a local service that always puts people first and we are proud our work enhances the communities in which we operate.”
This year, A Connolly Ltd, who are members of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, were a sponsor at the 2016 Wigan Business Awards, having previously walked away with two gongs themselves at the event including family business of the year in 2013 and supporting apprentices in 2015.
