Matthews & Goodman 150 Challenge Success

Matthews & Goodman 150 Challenge Success

National commercial property advisers Matthews & Goodman have raised over £1500 for local charities Francis House and Mencap Liverpool and over £10,500 for charity in total through their “150 Challenge”.

Launched on 1st April 2015 for a period of six months, the 150 Challenge is a staff fitness initiative created to celebrate the firm’s 150th Anniversary whilst raising funds for four local charities.

Since April, staff from across the firm have been logging their physical activity in an attempt to reach personal targets, improve their fitness, and to at least double the Government’s weekly exercise recommendation.  Qualifying activities ranged from a brisk walk to the train station to participating in formal sporting events, with points allocated to activities depending on number of calories burned.

Francis House and Mencap Liverpool were selected after staff in each of Matthews & Goodman’s four offices were invited to nominate and vote on a local charity.  In addition to corporate donations, staff supported the charities by taking part in a number of events including Francis House’s “Trafford Centre Abseil” and Mencap Liverpool’s “5 days of 5K”.

Other charities supported across the firm were The Portman Early Childhood Centre in London and national charity ReVitalise.  With many staff members opting to take part in organised events on a personal basis, funds were also raised for Starlight Children’s Foundation, The Christie Charitable Fund, Cancer Research UK, Cystic Fibrosis, Together for Short Lives and Headway.

Partner and Head of Matthews & Goodman’s Liverpool office Chris Weights commented, “At Matthews & Goodman we are committed to supporting the healthy lifestyle of our employees and engaging with our local communities. Through the 150 Challenge we have been able to demonstrate this successfully and we are delighted with the results, both in terms of the internal benefits and the fantastic amount of money we have raised for charity.”

Emma Rapley, Fundraising Officer at Francis House commented: “We get very little Government funding, so we rely on the support of the local community and organisations like Matthews & Goodman to ensure we can continue to provide a free service to the families who need us.”

Kevin Byrne, Fundraising Manager at Mencap Liverpool commented, “It’s been great working with Matthews & Goodman and we are really grateful for their support. The 150 Challenge has been a great way for them to support a local charity and we are very happy that they chose Mencap Liverpool. It means a lot to our members and staff and I hope that our relationship can continue”.
