Caddick Construction and The Derwent Group, the team currently on site building the new £100m Liverpool Shopping Park, visited Kensington Primary School on Brae Street and Northway Primary & Nursery School to conduct a site safety talk.

Both schools had an assembly to learn about the dangers of playing on a building site and also met Ivor Goodsite, the Considerate Constructors mascot, who explained why Personal Protective Equipment is worn.  The team also challenged the children to take part in a site safety poster competition, which will result in six children (three pupils from each school) winning the opportunity to have their artwork displayed on site hoardings.

Debbie Watson, marketing manager at Caddick Construction, said: “Visiting both Kensington and Northway Primary was a great experience. Caddick Construction and The Derwent Group are committed to serving the local community in the areas where they work, including educating local schools about safety on building sites.

“The children really enjoyed learning about how a building site functions and the dangers associated with a live site. Ivor Goodsite was well received too! We’re looking forward to announcing the winners of the art competition in the coming weeks.”

Michelle Atack, marketing manager for The Derwent Group, the developer responsible for the £100m Liverpool Shopping Park said:  “Liverpool Shopping Park will completely transform a huge part of Edge Lane, turning it into a thriving retail and leisure development for local people.  Much of the area will be a live construction site until the end of 2017 so it’s vital that we help to educate local children about the dangers on site, particularly with the school holidays approaching.  We’re excited to see the children’s ideas on site safety and look forward to putting their artwork centre stage on our hoardings.”

Caddick Construction started on site at Liverpool Shopping Park earlier this year.  The £100m retail and leisure development will regenerate the former Edge Lane Retail Park and create more than 3,000 jobs.  Described as ‘the final piece of Liverpool’s retail puzzle’ Liverpool Shopping Park will occupy three quarters of a mile of frontage onto Edge Lane and total 727,000 sq ft of mixed-use commercial development including 41 retail units, parking for 1500 cars and a significant leisure offer.

Caddick Construction and Caddick Civil Engineering are the operational arms of Caddick Group PLC. Offering more than 30 years' experience across a range of market sectors including commercial, education, industrial, leisure, refurbishment, residential, care, retail, mixed use and fit out. The Group employs almost 500 people and its turnover is £90 million.
