Two new multi-million pound retirement living schemes in Chester, built by Your Housing Group, one of the UK’s largest housing associations, are due to be completed next month. Together they will create a total of 159 new extra care apartments for local people aged 55 years and over, and are available for affordable rent, shared ownership and outright sale.
Kingswood on Kingsway in Newton, Chester will have 82 one and two bedroom apartments on a 3.2 acre site on the site of the former Woodfield School. It is an £8.3m scheme with a £1.8m grant from the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA).
The Windings has 77 one and two bedroom apartment s over three and four floors on Cable Drive in Helsby, Chester. The £8.7m development has a £460,000 grant from the HCA.
The schemes, are being created through a partnership between Your Housing Group, Cheshire West and Chester Council and the HCA, and will be completed by the end of March. Both developments will include on site amenities including a bistro, hairdressers and beauty salon, all open for non-residents to use.
Each will also have a communal residents’ lounge, craft room offering a range of weekly activities and landscaped grounds. All the specially designed apartments have wet rooms and well equipped kitchens with built in appliances including integrated oven, hob and extractor fan. There are also assisted bathrooms within the buildings, for those residents who need a little more help with their everyday tasks. Both schemes have been designed with dementia friendly aspects, including different colour schemes on each floor to enable familiarisation.

Funding has been provided by The Department of Health, HCA and Your Housing Group.
The contractor for Kingswood is Warrington-based Cruden Construction and the contractor for The Windings is Keepmoat. The architect for both schemes is Manchester-based Pozzoni.
