Rare double strengthens Cheshire architects offer

A junior associate at a firm of Cheshire architects has joined an elite band of experts after completing a rare double qualification.

Rare double strengthens Cheshire architects offer

Adam Turnell, who works for Base Architecture & Design, has become one of only a small number of professionals nationwide to be registered as a chartered landscape architect and a chartered architect.

His success will allow Base to enhance the full service concept to completion service it already offers to clients.

Adam studied for a dual architectural and landscape degree at the University of Sheffield and then completed a dual masters in the subjects in 2016. He became a chartered architect, joining the Royal Institute of British Architecture, in 2017 and was recently awarded his chartership as a landscape architect by the Landscape Institute, after evidencing his workplace activity and taking exams.

Although many architects work across both sectors, it is rare for one to receive charterships that recognise their skills and experience from both professional bodies.

Adam said: “I am not aware of any other dually chartered architects and landscape architects so I feel very privileged. It has been a lot of hard work but it has enabled me to look at schemes we are working on in a more holistic fashion.”

Base Director Harry Reece added: “We are very proud of Adam’s achievements and he deserves every success. His skills will benefit our clients, both residential and commercial, when it comes to planning individual schemes as well as developing master plans for commercial and housing projects.

“We have also welcomed a new architectural technologist Kieran Trow to the team to support the ongoing increased demand for our services.”

Base, which employs 16 people at offices in Christleton Road, Chester, and Shrewsbury but has clients across the UK, is renowned for its innovative and contemporary approach to design on new builds, renovations, extensions, and urban and commercial developments.

It has carved out a national reputation for its ‘Grand Design’ style builds and success with Paragraph 79 (formerly Paragraph 55) applications that allow for homes of exceptional architectural value to be built in open countryside.

Base also recently secured the first ever approval for a new-build grand design home near Newport under Telford & Wrekin Council’s HO10 policy, which echoes Paragraph 79
