Your Housing Group and Wulvern Housing welcomed the Mayor of Cheshire East, local dignitaries and key partners to a turf cutting ceremony where Kathy Cowell OBE DL, Chair of Your Housing Group and Nicole Kershaw, Wulvern’s Executive Director of Customers and Homes, marked the beginning of construction work at the £3.5 million, West View development on Underwood Lane in Crewe.
All of the 34 new homes at West View, which are being built by Keir Construction, will be for affordable rent and are being built on the sites of a former nursing home and sheltered housing scheme, with all homes being designed to meet the needs of families from the local area.
Kathy Cowell OBE DL, Chair of Your Housing Group, said: "The country is facing a housing shortage and Your Housing Group has an extensive development programme over the next couple of years, trying to tackle some of these issues in the North West. We are very excited to be working alongside Wulvern Housing and Cheshire East Council to bring much needed affordable housing solutions to the area.”
Funding for the West View development includes a grant from the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) as well as funding from the Recycled Capital Grant Fund and is a result of partnership working between Your Housing Group, Wulvern Housing and Cheshire East Council.
Wulvern’s Executive Director (Customers and Homes), Nicole Kershaw said: “We are delighted to be building new affordable homes for local people in Partnership with Your Housing. The current economic climate and growing population means there is a high demand for affordable housing locally. This development will not only address this need but the local community will also be boosted in terms of job creation and economic activity”.
Cllr Wesley Fitzgerald, Mayor of Cheshire East commented “I am so pleased to see homes like the ones that will be built at West View, finally coming out of the ground. For a long time no homes were being built, both Your Housing Group and Wulvern Housing have proved that they are striding ahead with their house building in Crewe. I look forward to being invited back once the homes are completed and meeting the new residents in their homes.”
